William returns to the stage with Space, Clowns and Heroes, a brand-new adventure in three parts, featuring a colourful cast of characters from his ever-expanding theatrical universe. Expect aliens, clowns, a mysterious magic bag, swordfighting, circus tricks, and plenty of mayhem. There are no evil potions or gross smoothies this time, can you believe it? But William’s delight in all things mischievous is still very much alive. With his distinctive blend of clowning, physical comedy, character play, circus and comic chaos, William invites audiences into a world where anything can be out of this world.

About William’s Creative Practice-
William’s mentoring program has always been driven by his own interests, strengths, ideas and creative ambitions. Over several years with a drama tutor, he has developed a distinctive performance style centred on character, clowning, physical comedy and circus skills.
His work explores recurring themes of good and evil, poisons and potions, innocence and deception, being in the spotlight, and the generosity of sharing it with others. Audience participation is also an important part of William’s work. These interests have become part of William’s theatrical world, where characters can be heroic, mischievous, ridiculous or mysterious, or sometimes all of these at once.
Space, Clowns and Heroes marks an important development in William’s practice. While previous productions have relied more heavily on his mentor as a two-hander, this year William has focused on building his confidence and independence as a solo performer and playing with a range of theatrical elements to support his work.
Clowning is central to William’s practice. He embraces risk, surprise, failure and frustration, finding comedy in the unexpected and developing a strong instinct for the deliberate choices that make his characters so engaging.
His circus practice has also grown this year through persistence, repetition and determination, and he brings these new skills into the work.
For audiences who know William’s work, Space, Clowns and Heroes brings together the things they love: character play, physical comedy, absurd situations, theatrical mischief, wigs and William’s unmistakable sense of humour, while showing an artist taking greater ownership of the stage and continuing to grow.
