You are invited to join Martha Hennessy - peace activist and member of the Catholic Worker Movement co-founded by her grandmother, Dorothy Day - for an evening of conversation on faith, conscience and nonviolent action.
Martha, a retired occupational therapist, has travelled to Russia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Korea, Palestine and Egypt to understand the devastating impact of the United States’ foreign military policy on families and countries around the world.She has been imprisoned for protesting war and nuclear weapons, the use of drones and the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo and in prisons across the United States – living her inspirational words “we have to be prepared to pay the costs of standing up to the status quo.”
Martha speaks on the impact of her grandmother Dorothy Day’s life, Catholic Social Teaching, war and peace, nuclear abolition and peacemaking efforts in the tradition of the Catholic Worker movement; as well as the current realities of climate change, the criminalisation of homelessness and AI.
