A DIY time capsule from Sydney’s queer underground. Before smartphones, social media and much queer visibility on screen, Queer TV gave dykes and queers a camera, a platform and a way to tell our own stories. Come dip into the archive for a creative, radical snapshot of queer Sydney — packed with artists, activists, parties, politics.*** Special Guest - DJ Gemma - living legend - cultural worker, sound tech and party organiser who lent her skills to a large number of fundraising benefits for community access television in the 90's. Gemma will be in discussion with MC on the night Leroy to give context to the early 90's.
**We will also have a little zine on queer tv to launch so those interested in queer media can have a story momento.
The screening include short docs with our queer legends such as artists Jasmine Hirst, Linda Dement, Peter Tully, David McDiarmid, Del La Grace Volcano, along with ACT Up Sydney actions, Mardi Gras Footage and loads of the parties such as X-Dress, the Feminist Media Affront warehouse raves and the Wicked Women competitions.
Doors open 630pm - come then for drinks and food
