WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Participants will get the opportunity to prepare for the Hackathon day by attending:

• 2 October: Kick-Off Webinar: Introduction to the challenges, including distribution of datasets and key briefing materials

• Prep Time: Work with your allocated team to develop your response to your nominated challenge

• 7 October: Face-to-face Q&A with Horizon Power

• 9 October 2026: Hackathon Day! 

WHO GETS TO PARTICIPATE?

Students from all ECU schools and campuses (City, Joondalup and South West) are welcome to apply for this opportunity including:

• School of Arts and Humanities
• School of Business and Law
• School of Education
• School of Engineering
• School of Medical and Health Sciences
• School of Nursing and Midwifery
• School of Science
• Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA)

Once all registrations have been received, EOIs will be reviewed and teams formed based on a balance of skills, backgrounds, and disciplines. This does mean we aren't able to guarantee a spot for every EOI received. 

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY OF THE HACKATHON?

Starting with registration from 8:40am, students will finalise the work they've been developing in their teams from 9am - 2pm with support from IBM's FutureLAB mentors and staff from ECU and Horizon Power before the Final Showcase Presentations from 2pm - 3pm. Networking with light refreshments will then be hosted from 3pm - 4pm.

WHAT EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED?

Open to individuals from all Schools. No prior experience is needed, just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to engage.
