Phaedo

Through the Platonic dialogue, Phaedo, we learn how Socrates spent the final few weeks of his life in a prison cell awaiting execution. Surrounded by his devoted followers, through conversation and a series of rational arguments, Socrates provided enlightenment to us all on a wide range of topics: suggesting that the soul is immortal; that the soul recollects what it knew prior to embodiment; that the soul is invisible and divine; and that it is perfectly virtuous and full of beauty.

During this week of study and discussion guided by the words of Socrates, we can explore what the words of Socrates mean to us in our own being.

The programme will incorporate group and plenary meetings to set the scene and allow full discussion and questions.
