An immersive and nurturing two day workshop for First Peoples mothers to learn about and make their first possum skin cloak for their Boorai.Be guided and supported by Yorta Yorta, Gunaikurnai and Gunditjmara artist Teena Moffatt who has lived and worked on Wurundjeri Country for over 30 years
Teena's creative practice and brand, Nharebula Gana, translates to "Mother with young in pouch" in the Yorta Yorta Language - making her the perfect cultural guide to share her knowledge and experience with possum skin cloaks, baby carriers and nuturing young people.
Across two days, you will learn about possum skin cloaks, history, practical uses, skills used in creating them and the symbolic stories. You'll be able to slow down, meet other mothers, be nurtured and fed. You'll be given a specially curated tour of the KHT collection of cloaks, baby carriers and other items for your interest. We will also take time for a wellness activity and have lunch and morning tea on both days.
We will supply you with your own possum skin pelt to begin your child's first cloak as well as access to burners to create your designs.
Open to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander mothers.
Free to attend.
Babies are welcome (0-3 years).
We invite you to bring a support person to allow you more freedom to listen, connect and create, while having your baby cared for by a person of your choosing.
Not open to men nor non-First Peoples.
All materials and tools supplied.
Lunch and snacks provided.
This is a two day experience, and you are asked respectfully to attend on both days.
