You are warmly invited to an unforgettable evening of music in the War Memorial Chapel, featuring internationally acclaimed Australian operatic tenor Andrew Goodwin and the world premiere of his original work, Songs of War.Barker College is delighted to host Andrew Goodwin, a member of the Barker Community, whose distinguished career includes leading roles at the Bolshoi Theatre, La Scala, Liceu, Teatro Real and Opera Australia. He performs regularly with major Australian and international orchestras, and his recordings include songs by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov for ABC Classics. Born in Sydney, he trained at the St Petersburg Conservatory.
At the heart of the evening is the world premiere of Songs of War, a powerful new song cycle setting the poetry of Wilfred Owen, Alan Seeger and Barker alumnus Lieutenant Rupert Llandels Waldron Nelson (Class of 1941) and offering a moving reflection on remembrance, sacrifice and the enduring human experience of war.
The concert will also feature choral works, a string quartet, and several world premieres by members of Barker's music community, culminating in a newly commissioned Requiem for choir and organ.
