Oils: Designing the Landscape with Leanne Halls T4 2026
This four-week oil painting course is designed for artists with some experience in oil painting who would like to develop their landscape paintings beyond simply reproducing what they see in a reference photograph.Throughout the course, students will explore how a photograph can become a starting point rather than a set of instructions. We will look at how cropping, composition, tonal design, light, atmosphere and selective detail can be used to create a stronger and more personal painting.
Students are welcome to continue working in their own individual painting style, whether highly detailed and realistic or more expressive. The emphasis will be on developing the skills to make thoughtful artistic choices about what to include, what to simplify, what to change and, importantly, what to leave out.
