We are thrilled to be hosting JJ Carpenter for the launch of their new book set in Tasmania, 'The First House'. A non-traditional haunted house novel set in Stanley and inspired by Tasmania’s Highfield Estate, this is a story haunted by ghosts, family memories, colonial history, and an ancient malevolent presence. Carpenter will be joined in conversation by local author Alan Baxter an author of horror and weird fiction.Award-winning author, JJ Carpenter, celebrates our personal stories and unearths our hidden histories through thrilling, terrifying tales. She writes gothic and psychological fiction, rooted in Australian history. Her work explores trauma, memory, and survival, often set within haunted places where the past presses uncomfortably into the present. JJ is proudly queer, feminist, and neurodivergent. She lives with a minor disability and is a DV survivor, but does not let those labels define her.
This event is being held at The Hobart Bookshop on Thursday the 1st October. Doors will open at 5.15pm and the event will start at 5:30pm. Click on the link below to book your ticket.
