Brave Conversations Workshop
About
This in-person, interactive workshop equips participants with practical tools for navigating controversial, sensitive and polarising issues with clarity, confidence and care. Rather than avoiding complexity or closing down disagreement, participants will explore how to create the conditions for thoughtful, rigorous and constructive engagement.Drawing on realistic scenarios and structured practice, the workshop examines how student leaders can support others to engage across difference, consider competing perspectives and remain open when conversations become difficult. Participants will leave with practical frameworks and strategies that can be applied across a range of student leadership and campus contexts.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• cultivate an explorer’s mindset in themselves and others
• create conditions that support respectful engagement with sensitive issues
• apply frameworks that strengthen critical thinking, intellectual humility and perspective-taking
• respond constructively when discussions become tense or emotionally charged
• de-escalate difficult exchanges without shutting down meaningful dialogue
