About
During October, we are excited to launch the inaugural West Gippsland Bio-Blitz, a region-wide citizen science initiative aimed at capturing a snapshot of the incredible biodiversity found across West Gippsland.We invite community members of all ages and experience levels to get involved by documenting the plants, animals and fungi found throughout our region using iNaturalist.
iNaturalist is a free mobile app and online platform that allows people to record and share observations of nature. By uploading photos and sounds of species you encounter, you can help identify wildlife, contribute valuable biodiversity data, and support conservation efforts locally and around the world.
To help you get started, we are offering a free training session that will:
Introduce the West Gippsland Bio-Blitz project
Show you how to join the Bio-Blitz on iNaturalist
Demonstrate how to use the iNaturalist app
Explain how your observations contribute to citizen science
Provide tips for recording species in your backyard, local park, school ground or natural areas
Whether you're a keen naturalist or simply curious about the wildlife around you, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and contribute to a better understanding of West Gippsland's biodiversity.
