About

Melbourne Animal Physiotherapy (MAP) is excited to launch our new Animal Dry Needling Course in March 2027.

This intensive one-day, 6-hour practical course is designed for physiotherapists and animal rehabilitation professionals who want to develop their knowledge and practical skills in the safe and clinically appropriate use of dry needling in animal rehabilitation.

Delivered by experienced animal physiotherapists, the course combines canine anatomy, palpation, dry needling techniques and clinical reasoning, with a strong emphasis on hands-on practical learning with canine patients.

Course content

Participants will explore:

* Canine functional anatomy and palpation
* Dry needling principles and techniques
* Needle selection, handling and safe application
* Indications, precautions and contraindications
* Forelimb and shoulder musculature
* Hindlimb and pelvic musculature
* Selected spinal and epaxial musculature
* Patient selection and clinical reasoning
* Practical application with canine patients
* Integrating dry needling into a comprehensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation plan

This is not simply a course about *where to place a needle*. Our focus is on developing the clinical reasoning to determine when dry needling is indicated, what you are aiming to achieve, and how it should be incorporated into an evidence-informed rehabilitation program.

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for qualified physiotherapists currently working with animals and appropriately qualified animal rehabilitation professionals who already have experience with animal handling, assessment and rehabilitation.

Previous dry needling experience is beneficial but not essential.

Participants should ensure that the techniques taught are appropriate to their professional scope of practice, insurance requirements and relevant regulations within their jurisdiction.
