Introduction to Bookbinding (101/102) - All Day
About
This introductory bookbinding course is ideal for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills. Participants will be introduced to key bookbinding terminology, the basic structure of a book (codex), and the use of essential bookbinding tools.The course focuses on fundamental measuring, accurate cutting, paper handling and sewing techniques, with an introduction to single-section and pamphlet bindings. These simple structures are perfect for zines, notebooks and quick booklets.
Throughout the workshop, participants will develop practical skills and complete five bookbinding projects, gaining confidence with the tools, materials and techniques used to create simple hand-bound books.
During the workshop you will complete five projects:
- a single section stitched paper cover booklet
- a single section stitched card cover booklet
- a hard back single section quarter binding
- a hard back dingle section cased-in binding
- a multi-section French-stitched notebook featuring a sewn-on cover and an exposed spine
The workshop is limited to 8 participants and includes all materials.
