SATURDAY 29 May 2021

JOIN US for our regular last Saturday of the month walk! You don't have to be a Camino Pilgrim, but you may aspire to one day walk the Camino or other pilgrimages; walk with like-minded people who enjoy bush walking/hiking and an opportunity to do some beautiful walks in the Blue Mountains. An opportunity to learn more about the Camino.. You must know your own walking ability.
There will be two options for the walk on Sat 29 May 2021. While there will be no meet-up this month, there will be an opportunity to go to a coffee shop or pub at the end of each walk.
Walk 1 - Easy. Wentworth Falls walk
Meet at Wentworth Falls Station near the Public Toilets on Station St. 8:45am for 9:00am start.
This walk will include a walk around Wentworth Falls Lake and the flatter section of the Nature Track, down to the Conservation Hut and return to Wentworth Falls via Falls Road. A coffee stop will be available at the Lake and the Conservation Hut. This walk will be approx 11KM and will take around 3.5 hours. You are invited to have lunch afterwards (at own cost) at the Grand View Hotel, Great Western Highway, Wentworth Falls.
Walk 2 - Med-Hard. Kedumba Valley full day walk
Meet at the locked gate on Kedumba Valley Road, off Tablelands Road at 8:30am for 8.45am start. Directions below.
Start walk from the locked gate on Kedumba Valley Road, Kings Tableland to the Kedumba River campground. 19km return with a 650 m change in elevation (roughly twice the height of the Giant Stairway near Echo Point) - approx 6hrs. The walk includes spectacular scenary, varying vegetation, historic sites, including the recently restored Maxwell's slab hut, and a lunch stop beside the Kedumba River, near the eastern slope of Mount Solitary. This is a true Camino walk, following dirt roads with no steps. However, the return walk involves a long, and in some parts steep, fire road climb back to Kings Tableland.
To do this walk you need to be confident of your fitness as there are no exit points - you're committed as it's down into the valley and return up again.
* You must bring your lunch (picnic beside the Kedumba River) and snacks,
* Carry at least 2 litres of water (the Kedumba River water is not safe to drink) and walking poles if you have them.
* Also bring wet weather gear and dress in layers as it can be considerably warmer in the valley than at the top, especially on a sunny day.
Meet at the locked gate on Kedumba Valley Road at 8:30 am.
Directions: To get to the locked gate, turn onto Tablelands Road on the Sydney side of Wentworth Falls (at the Pots Shop with large panda and giraffe!). Follow the road to the fork at the old Queen Victoria Hospital (4 to 5 km). Take the right hand fork and follow that road, which soon becomes dirt to the locked gate (about 2 km). While suitable for 2WD vehicles, the dirt road may be rough and difficult for low clearance vehicles. There is some parking at the locked gate, but if you can share a ride with someone that would be helpful. There is plenty of parking at the old hospital and we can arrange a car shuttle to the locked gate if necessary.
We should finish the walk between 3 and 4 pm. There is an opportunity to go to the Grand View Hotel for a drink and snack after the walk.

WALKING SAFETY
Please read this before you attempt any of our walks. Your safety is your responsibility.
You are welcome on all our walks, but please read the following carefully before deciding to do a walk:
1. Read our notes about the walk carefully, and be aware of the difference between the grades of walks.
Easy walks are usually on well formed fire roads or bush paths, with limited stairs or steep parts. Minimum elevation gain. Distance 5-10kms.
Medium walks may include difficult terrain such as steep climbs, sometimes up rough tracks or stairs, across creeks or over uneven ground. These walks are for reasonably fit and experienced walkers only. Distance 10-15+ kms
2. Do not attempt any walk if you have any health concerns at all.
3. Wear appropriate footwear and bring ample water (minimum 2litres). Walking poles can be useful.
4. The group is only as fast as its slowest walker. If you are unsure about being able to keep up with the group for the entire walk, start with the Easy Walk.
5. All walkers will meet at the start of the walk. If you are unsure of the route, make sure you buddy up with someone who does. An experienced walker will always be a the rear of the group.
6. All walkers are requried to register via TryBooking prior to the walk - button below.
