Contemporary Art On The Road with AMRITA HEPI (Gertrude)
In 2021, CAOTR will present five workshops, in conjunction with educators from three regional galleries: Horsham Regional Art Gallery, Castlemaine Art Museum and Shepparton Art Museum. The program will also present with Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) for the first time.
The first part of the program consists of formal presentations by educators from Gertrude Contemporary, Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) and the host organisations. A presentation and hands-on workshop by a current Gertrude Studio Artist will form the second part of the program.
Amrita Hepi will lead a workshop demonstrating the translation of performance to new mediums in the gallery context. Amrita is an award-winning First Nations choreographer and dancer from Bundjulung (Aus) and Ngāpuhi (NZ) territories. An artist with a broad following and reach, her work has taken various forms (film, performance, sculpture, text, lecture, participatory installation), but always begins with the body as a point of archive, memory, dance and resistance. You can view documentation of Monumental, an example of this practice, here.
Presenters: Sharon Grace Flynn, Gertrude Contemporary; Melissa Bedford, Monash University Museum of Art; Kathryn Hendy-Ekers, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority; and representatives from the partnering galleries and museums.
