Augusts exciting film event sees FAM join forces with The Keith Looby Film Project for another evening of film….with a difference!
Film & Arts Mackay are proud to present—as part of a nationwide tour—the documentary film, LOOBY, about the eponymous Australian artist followed by a Q&A with co-producer Sean Murphy. Combining rebel instinct with prodigious talent, Keith Looby won many major awards, including our nation's most well-known, the Archibald Prize. Looby premiered at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and (pre-COVID19) went on to packed screenings at the National Art School, Sydney; Canberra Museum and Gallery; and the Queen Victoria Museum and Gallery, Launceston. The Archibald Prize always creates much discussion about art in Australia; Looby adds personality and politics to the mix. Among other things, the film delves into the painter's focus on Indigenous history and trauma at a time when Australian institutions were of a "history began with the First Fleet" mindset. These and other resonant threads are weaved together in a tight 80-minute feature.
