Bankstown Child Birth & Early Parenting Education

Welcome to Antenatal Classes at Bankstown Hospital
- These classes are ONLY suitable for expectant parents who are booked to birth their babies at Bankstown Hospital.
- TWO comprehensive sessions are facilitated by a Midwife/Parent Educator to help you prepare for labour, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting.
- Each session runs on a Tuesday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm (including breaks).
- Ideally, the sessions should be attended from 28-34 weeks gestation.
- Please ONLY book ONE ticket per session. One ticket includes attendance for both you and your support person.
Day1: LABOUR & BIRTH
This 6-hour session aims to support and empower women to understand how their bodies work to achieve a normal labour and birth.

The anatomy and physiology of labour and the birth process

Understanding the role of hormones in labour

Natural and medical methods of pain relief and self-help measures
- Positions for labour & birth
- Ways for your birthing partner to support you
- Interventions that may become necessary during labour
- Other pathways to birth such as instrumental and operative births
Day2: EARLY DAYS WITH YOUR BABY, SLEEP & SETTLING & BREASTFEEDING
This 6-hour session focuses on the early days with a newborn.
