Suor Angelica
Mopoke Theatre Productions is excited to present a new production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica in July 2022. At just over an hour long, and containing one of the most beautiful arias for soprano voice, Senza mamma, this is a great first opera for first-timers.
Written for an ensemble cast of women, Suor Angelica is a unique one-act opera. The opera tells the story of Sister Angelica who, after seven years at the convent, longs to hear news of her family. It is a beautiful telling of the friendship of the sisters, and of Sister Angelica’s emotional journey through tragic loss and redemption. As one of Puccini’s own favourite compositions, with its soaring melodies, Suor Angelica demonstrates how music can stir our deepest emotions.
