Fiction Inspired by Real Life with Kavita Bedford
Byron Writers Festival presents Fiction Inspired by Real Life with Kavita Bedford.
In these sessions workshop participants will look at the use of personal perspectives to shape fiction. What is the place of fiction when recreating the world according to one’s own experience? Sessions will examine character and place, and explore ideas of what it means to write ‘truth’ and personal narratives. The workshop will explore popular forms including autofiction, memoir and creative non-fiction, as well as literary devices and the development of ‘voice’, with exercises that draw on place, conversations and the wonder of one's own life. Participants will be asked to look at writing examples of modern fiction that draw from stylized personal perspectives and ‘voice’, such as Annie Dillard, Natalia Ginzburg, Bryan Washington.
