Beethoven’s Last Quartet - SWIFTS CREEK
About the Event
25 years after his first string quartets, Beethoven was profoundly deaf and writing profound, searching, intensely original music, which baffled many of his contemporaries. The final quartet typifies Beethoven’s late period in both looking back to the forms of the Baroque and looking forward to previously unimagined harmonies and melodies. Performed with Wolf’s romping Italian Serenade and Sally Beamish’s playful homage to Beethoven’s fourth quartet.
