Focus group discussion - NSW suspension and tutorial centres (SOLD OUT)
PwC is reviewing NSW suspension and tutorial centres to see how they can better support the NSW Department of Education goal that “every student is engaged and challenged to continue to learn, and every student, every teacher, every leader and every school improves every year.”
We invite you to share your thoughts and experience in an online discussion with others in a similar position.

Through this review, we would like to understand more about how the centres are operating and what is and is not working well. We are also interested in opportunities to improve the centres.
To help to create a good conversation about the centres, please have your video cameras on during the session if possible.
We have allocated specific session times for different groups of people. Please look for your role in relation to the centres.
In registering your attendance for a focus group discussion, you agreeing to the terms in the consent statement below.
19th September - 10th October
- Centre staff: 22nd September and 12th October
- School staff (from referring, home or host schools): 19th September and 11th October
- Students: 19th September and 10th October
- Families (including parents and carers): 20th September and 10th October
- Third-party providers (organisations that support students or that some students transition to after being at a centre): 21st September and 11th October
- Department staff: 22nd September and 12th October
- Out of home care agency staff: 21st September

Our discussion will focus on your experiences with a tutorial and/or suspension centre. For example, we are keen to hear what you like the most about the centres, what impact you think they are having, and any suggestions you might have for centre improvement. We will identify common themes and important issues that arise in these discussions and use this information in our review
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary; there is no obligation to take part. If you do not participate or you withdraw, there will be no impact on your career, or your work and/or involvement with these centres. You may withdraw part or all your responses until up to two weeks after participation. You may decline to answer questions if you do not feel comfortable during the focus group. If your focus group session is interrupted for any reason, we can pause, reschedule, or end it.
PwC are conducting this research independently from the NSW Department of Education (the Department) to ensure there are no conflicts of interest. All information will be de-identified and aggregated when presented to the Department to ensure your anonymity and confidentiality. Any identifiable information collected will be used for the purpose of this study and no other, without your express permission. Data will be stored on PwC servers in Australia and will only be accessible to the PwC project teams in identifiable form. At the end of this project, any identifying information will be destroyed and de-identified, aggregated data will be provided to the Department.
