For Love of Country
About
Ian Smith talks about his book 'For Love of Country'; a record of the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from South Australia in the Australian armed forces from the Second Boer War to today. The book lists the names of 422 service personnel, contains profiles of over 30 individual veterans across various conflicts, and places their service and sacrifice in the societal context from which it was given. A great deal of genealogical research was involved in writing the book, there are interesting aspects of conducting genealogical research into Aboriginal families which are unique.
Ian Smith is a research and writing professional, specialising in veterans' issues and military subjects, with previous experience in the Australian Army, Federal Police and Australian Public Service.
