Renowned author and activist, Dennis Altman talks with author Carmel Bird about being Tasmanians from way back who became writers. They’ll chat about the what, why and how of writing.
Dennis’ newest book is God Save The Queen: The Strange Persistence of Monarchies. His recent memoir is Unrequited Love: Diary of an Accidental Activist.
Carmel Bird is a writer of both fiction and non-fiction. Her first collection of short stories appeared in 1976. Since then she has published novels, essays, anthologies, children’s books and also manuals on how to write. Her newest book is a memoir, Telltale.
Dennis Altman is the son of Jewish refugees, and a writer and academic who first came to attention with the publication of his book Homosexual: Oppression & Liberation in 1972. Often compared to Germaine Greer’s Female Eunuch Altman’s work was the first serious analysis to emerge from the gay liberation movement.
