Carmel Bird grew up in Tasmania and now lives in Castlemaine. She has published almost forty
books including novels, short story collections, essays, anthologies, and manuals for writers. She is a popular teacher of writing, both here and overseas, and she is a regular book reviewer. Her books have been translated into several languages.
In 2016 she received the Patrick White Award, and in 2022 she was honoured with a PhD from
the University of Tasmania for her contribution to Literature. Her anthology The Stolen Children -
