Chrysantha Quartet Launceston
Virtuosi Tasmania presents the Chrysantha Quartet - Yue Hong Cha & Frances Davies, violins, Janet Rutherford, viola and Brett Rutherford, cello. They will perform two delightful classical works, Haydn op 76 No.3 “The Emperor”, and Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 1 in E flat major, opus 12.
Haydn, age 65, writing his last group of six quartets in the late 1790s, demonstrates greater virtuosity, power and depth of thought than ever heard in string quartet writing at that time. Mendelssohn, thirty years later, composing his first mature quartet at the age of 18, is lyrical, intensely passionate and ingenious.
