Lele (SOLD OUT)
About
Meaning “fly” in Samoan, Lele is a modern adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone, recontextualised with a focus on the contemporary Samoan Australian experience, featuring an all-Pacific Islander cast.Spearheaded by Samoan artists and collaborators Rexson Pelman, Michael Logo and Chanella Macri, Lele is the retelling of Lele, Butterfly, first created and performed by Western Edge back in 2018. A story of a family torn apart by pride, violence and grief, Lele transforms one of the greatest Greek tragedies into a poignant expression of culture, honour, family and growing up in, around and outside of the Fa’a Samoa (the traditional Samoan ‘way’).
