USING EI TO CREATE PSYCHOLOGICALLY SAFE WORKPLACES
About
We will discuss the concepts of toxic workplaces (institutional betrayal) vs trauma informed and emotionally intelligent workplaces (psychological safety).Trauma is not new in the workplace and over the last two challenging years, organisations have had to confront issues they never expected and find new ways to support their employees through repeated traumatic experiences. Estimates are that 6 in 10 men and 5 in 10 women experience at least one trauma, and approximately 6% of the population will experience PTSD at some point in their lives.
The way organisations support people during periods of trauma is uniquely powerful, and the ramifications are long-lasting. This is because in times of trauma, the concepts of institutional betrayal and psychological safety come into play.
The lack of appropriate support for those experiencing trauma in the workplace increases the risk of chronic stress and burnout.
