Mike Heimlich Homeschool Library
About
Mike Heimlich was an inspirational robotics mentor, professor, engineer, and father. He sadly passed away at the beginning of 2022 and was mourned by the entire Australian FIRST Community. The Heimlich family donated their extensive collection of Homeschooling textbooks to the Project Bucephalus robotics team - a group featuring a number of home-schooled students. In memory of Mike, the Project Bucephalus team started the Homeschool Library. This project is a way to make textbooks accessible to homeschool families. The library itself will be run out of the robotics workshop (90 Foleys Lane, North Wollongong) and be accessible when the team is meeting. Borrowing times will be posted on the "Illawarra homeschoolers" FaceBook page
Families wishing to become borrowers should register on this system (at a cost of $20 per family) and will then have access to the Library.
Catalogue
The Homeschool Library catalogue is available to everyone and will be updated as books are donated or borrowed. Books are sorted according to the subjects at Open Library.
Using The Library
Any family wanting to use the Homeschool Library must first register as a Borrower (click 'Book Now') at a cost of $20. This will cover all the members of the Immediate family.
The Library will be accessible at posted scheduled times - usually on Saturdays between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Families are welcome to visit during that time and browse/borrow. Note: The library is hosted in an active robotics workshop, so PLEASE make sure you check in with one of the Mentors before entry (enclosed shoes are advised).
The Library will run largely on the honour system, but we have a few requests to make things accessible to as many people as possible:
- Please look after books and don't make permanent markings in textbooks.
- There is a limit of 10 books borrowed per person
- We ask that books be borrowed for no longer than 4-6 weeks.
- Families can register their interest in a book if it is being borrowed.
- Loans can be renewed if no-one else is interested in the book(s).
Contact the organisers if you have any questions or special requests.
DONATIONS
The Homeschool Library will accept donations of homeschooling-useful books or material from any family. Please contact the organisers to arrange drop-off.
