About
Having spent the better half of 2022 readying an electrifying live show, Australian Neo-Wave duo Big Reef are set to release their second official offering Tricka the Light on September 16. Paired with a new-wave inspired surrealist video, brothers Morgan and Hayden Quinn have produced eclectic, irreverent bop that’s a nod to the best of new-wave and progressive pop.
Paying homage to vintage Australian new-wave and British progressive pop, Tricka the Light channels the likes of Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears and Sparks. Big Reef employs a broad palette of musical and production motifs borrowed from the new wave and post-punk scenes of the 1980s. The pairs’ writing process is studio-based and explorative, resulting in production-focused songwriting: written and produced simultaneously from behind the mixing desk rather than in the rehearsal room.
