Glenella Camino Open Weekend
Glenella will host a Camino Open Weekend from 25 to 27 November.
Bookings open Sunday 13 November at 6pm.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
Make a Camino waymarker with Les Simons and Rowan Bouttell. Example shown above. Workshop fee covers a Hebel stone, Camino tile, brass plaque, equipment and support to build your own Camino waymarker to take home. The workshop will take place in the workshop/garden at Glenella, Blackheath from 10am on Friday 25 November with an opportunity to complete your Waymarker on Saturday and/or Sunday. There is a limit of 10 places available for the workshop. Workshop fee: $120
Bake Santiago tarts with Margaret Bouttell and Carlene Martin. Workshop fee covers ingredients for two mini Santiago tarts to take home (if they last that long). The workshop will take place in the Glenella kitchen from 3pm - 4.15pm on Saturday 26 November. There is a limit of 8 places available for the workshop. Workshop fee: $20
Make Camino earrings with Les Simons. Workshop fee covers two pair of earrings. The workshop will take place in the Glenella dining room from 3pm - 4pm on Saturday 26 November. There is a limit of 10 places available for the workshop. Workshop fee: $20.
Practice your Spanish with Eileen Morley and Dick Bird. Want to communicate with locals during your Camino rather than depend on your translation app? This fun and interactive workshop will help build your confidence when speaking Spanish. The workshop will provide practical help with fluency and pronunciation of key Camino phrases and vocabulary, and help you communicate more effectively when speaking to local people. It’s suitable if you’re at beginner or intermediate level. The workshop will take place in the Glenella lounge from 3pm - 4.15pm on Saturday 26 November. There is a limit of 15 places available for the workshop. Workshop fee: $10
FERIA DE PEREGRINO (PILGRIM FAIR)
A Feria de Peregrino (Pilgrim fair) will be held in the garden at Glenella in Blackheath from 1pm - 3pm on Saturday 26 November. For sale will be Camino art, Camino books, and walking items.
END OF YEAR CAMINO DINNER
Join us for a paella feast at Glenella from 6.30pm - 10.30pm on Saturday 26 November. $40 per person. Vegetarian option available. BYO
CAMINO TRAINING WALKS
You may have already walked a Camino in Europe or you may aspire to one day walk a Camino or other pilgrimages. Walking with the Blue Mountains Camino group is an opportunity to walk in the beautiful Blue Mountains with like-minded people. You will learn more about preparing for a Camino and why our walks are more than just a walk.
Both an EASY and a MEDIUM walk are offered.
To join the Medium walk you must have walked with the Blue Mountains Camino group previously - no first timers.
To join a walk:
- You must bring snacks.
- You must carry at least 1.5litres of water.
WALK INFORMATION
SATURDAY WALK - 26 NOVEMBER
Meeting place: Glenella
Meeting time: 8.50 for 9am start.
Walk 1 - Easy, 7km. Rhodo Gardens Hat Hill Loop. 9am-1pm.
Leaving Glenella, the walk goes through the Rhododendron gardens up to Ridgewell Road and then along the Burramoko fire trail. A drop down to Hat Hill Creek and then a short uphill to Hat Hill Road. A bit of suburb walking before entering the Memorial Gardens and back to Glenella.
Walk 2 - Medium, 13km. Two Lookouts Blackheath Loop. 9am-1pm.
Leaving Glenella, the walk goes along Braeside fire trail exiting at Evans Lookout Road and then a few kms along to the Evans Lookout. Return via the Cliff Top walk (has many steps both up and down; that means a lot of steps!) past Govetts Leap lookout and finish along Popes Glen trail. Option to return directly from Govetts Leap lookout.
To join the Medium walk you must have walked with the Blue Mountains Camino group previously - no first timers. You also need to be confident of your fitness to walk for over 4 hours.
