Join well-known family historian and published author Dr Betty O’Neill for a half day introductory workshop on writing narrative and creative non-fiction including all forms of life writing - memoir, family history, biography, travel writing.

The alchemy of turning facts and events into story.
In this workshop Betty will guide you through the elements of writing that make non-fiction engaging for readers and fun for you to write. Participants will have opportunities to work on current or planned writing projects and time to discuss their writing with Betty and other group members. This will be a highly interactive workshop discussing audience, structure and the nine essentials of a good story with examples and practice. Bring along a short non-fiction excerpt that you have enjoyed reading to share.
Dr Betty O’Neill is an author and lecturer in creative intelligence at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her debut memoir, The Other Side of Absence: Discovering my father’s secrets was published in August 2020 by Ventura Press. She has recently featured on ABC radio’s Conversations with Sarah Kanowski with the interview reaching #3 on the most listened to Apple podcasts. Betty has a lively curiosity and a passion for family history and sharing stories.
