LSTAQ is hosting a free Professional Development opportunity- in conjunction with their 2022 Annual General Meeting.
It will be held on 4th June 2022, starting at 9.00 am registration at the
Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre - Plaza level
- use the Grey Street entry near Russell Lane.
Livestream PD option also starting at 9.30 am.
Face to face registration required for catering by 28th May 2022.
Online registration is the only means of registering for this professional development.

9.30 am - Join us in person with Dr Pamela Snow as she presents 'Oral Language skills and reading success: How the Simple View of Reading supports primary and secondary classroom success'
In this presentation, Professor Snow will consider why reading is fundamentally important for all students’ academic success and mental health in the primary and secondary years. She will review some important aspects of reading instruction history that have resulted in the perpetuation of mixed messages for teachers into the 21st century. Professor Snow will outline the importance of using theory to guide practice, using the Simple View of Reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986) as a worked example. She will critique Balanced Literacy and propose strategies for teachers wanting to make better use of reading science evidence in their classrooms, at both primary and secondary levels.

12 pm - Dr Judith Howard discusses 'Trauma- Aware Schools'
In her presentation, Dr Howard will present why a trauma-aware approach to education is needed, the theory and the science that informs trauma-aware education, what this approach involves, and some resources to help.
1 pm - lunch and networking opportunity.
