The Geelong and Region Branch of the National Trust will again hold its popular CBD Guided Walks in Australia’s UNESCO City of Design on October 2 and 9. The Walks take about 2 hours, starting from the Johnstone Park Rotunda near the Railway Station.
Geelong-trained architect Percy Everett designed Johnstone Park in 1916. You will see more of his work and that of other architects in Federation, Beaux Arts, and Art Deco buildings. Banks, insurance companies and shopkeepers built them between the 1900s and 1930s as Geelong grew, becoming a centre for communications, manufacture and commerce. Modernist buildings from the 1970s also feature on the Walk.
The booklet Highlights of Geelong’s 20th Century Architecture will be available on the day at the special price of $6.
Marshals will monitor the route for safety. Please wear walking shoes, bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. COVID Safe rules at the time will apply.
