Terms and Conditions  −  Border Music Camp Application 2026 - 50th Camp!

Acceptance to Camp
Payment of fees does not ensure acceptance. All applications will be reviewed and assessed by the Director and the Border Music Camp Committee.

Minimum ages for attending Camp
The minimum age for Morning Only students is eight years as at the start of Camp. There is no maximum age for Camp.
We suggest Short Day and Long Day students should be at least ten years old.

Placement in ensembles
Musicians are assigned to the morning ensembles through the audition process, by tutors. Assignment of musicians to ensembles, and any movement between them, is at the discretion of the Director and the Committee, guided by the specialist expertise of the tutors.

Instruments catered for
Border Music Camp caters for instruments played in standard configurations of symphony orchestras and symphonic wind ensembles:
- Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass
- Woodwinds: flute (including piccolo), oboe (including cor anglais), clarinet (all types), bassoon, saxophone (all types)
- Brass: trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tenor horn, tenor tuba, baritone, tuba
- Percussion (including timpani)

We regret it is impossible to cater for guitar, recorder, piano or harp, but we invite students of these instruments to audition for percussion. Percussion students must be at least Grade 3 AMEB in their regular instrument (e.g. recorder, piano, guitar, harp).

Restrictions on instruments
For some very popular instruments, we have set a maximum number of places for each ensemble. These instruments include (but are not limited to) flute, trumpet, cello and percussion. Admission of these instruments is in order of receipt of application. We maintain a waiting list in case of withdrawals, but we urge you to apply early.

Attendance
Because of the group nature of the Camp activities, it is necessary for all students to attend all timetabled sessions included in the package for which they have paid. In particular, all Campers must attend concert rehearsals on the final Saturday of Camp.
Attendance at camp requires all students to perform in the Saturday evening concert. Short day, Long Day and Boarding students are required to perform in the Friday night concert.
Adult students follow a slightly different arrangement for some social activities, with appropriate age-alternative options provided.

Changes to the timetable and activities
Border Music Camp reserves the right to alter timetabled sessions, activities and events, at any time with little or no notice. We encourage all students and parents/guardians to sign up for the BandApp for direct communications about changes during Camp week (details will be emailed prior to Camp and available at registration).

Camp opening and registration
On the Sunday on which Camp commences, all Campers are required to:
- register (from 12:00 noon);
- attend an audition (from noon onwards);
- attend the opening assembly (at 3:15 pm); and
- attend the first rehearsal of their ensemble (concludes 5:15 pm).

More details can be found on our website.

Camp conclusion
Border Music Camp concludes after supper following the final concert on Saturday evening. All students must attend this concert.

Restrictions on boarding
Accommodation on-site is limited. Applicants who live in the Albury/Wodonga (2640/3690) area are not eligible for boarding. The Scots School has recently refurbished their boarding houses and because of this there are very limited places for boarding.
Due to limited availability of rooms, to be eligible for boarding you must be in Year 7 – 12 at school at the time of camp.
Students aged 18 and still attending school are treated as school-aged children and are still able to board.
Students are accommodated in individual rooms where possible. Bathrooms are shared facilities, and at times room sharing may be required. Shared accommodation can be a valuable part of the camp experience, encouraging friendships and a sense of community.
You will be notified one month prior to camp commencement if your application for boarding has been successful.

Adult students
Adult students are welcome to participate in all musical activities at Border Music Camp, including evening concerts and the Thursday big band night. Organised social activities in the afternoons and evenings are restricted to children aged 18 or under who are attending school. Border Music Camp also recognises the importance of community for our adult campers, and we do all we can to ensure there are opportunities for adults to connect socially and enjoy the shared camp experience.

Photography
Photography, videoing, filming, and the use of mobile phones and electronic devices, are not permitted during concerts, or any rehearsals or timetabled activities. This is because of concerns about interruptions to performances, copyright, consent, privacy and duty of care.

Online Safety and Social Media
Border Music Camp complies with Australian online-safety laws introduced by the Australian Government and guidance from the eSafety Commissioner.
By enrolling in Camp, students and parents/guardians agree that:
- students will follow Border Music Camp’s Social Media Policy and Code of Conduct;
- students under the legal minimum age will not create or use social media accounts for camp-related purposes;
- students will not post images, videos, or information about other participants without permission; and
- Live-in students may be required to submit phones overnight as part of camp safety and wellbeing rules.

Failure to follow these requirements may result in restrictions on device use or expulsion from Camp.

Policies
Border Music Camp's policies can be found on our website (bordermusiccamp.org.au).

COVID-19 and flu vaccination policy
In line with current advice from NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education, Border Music Camp encourages all students, staff and volunteers to keep their routine vaccinations up to date, including influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations where recommended.
To help maintain a healthy camp environment, participants are asked not to attend camp if they are unwell, particularly with cold or flu-like symptoms, and to follow good hygiene practices such as regular handwashing (see NSW Health guidance for parents and students).

Health disclaimer and waiver
I acknowledge that this event may be cancelled, potentially with little or no notice, for health-related (including COVID-19 and/or influenza) reasons. I confirm that I will not hold Border Music Camp Inc. liable for any loss or consequences suffered as a result and I expressly waive any claim I might have for compensation.
Students should not attend camp if they are unwell. A parent or guardian will be required to immediately retrieve their children from camp if they are displaying COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms. Students aged 18 or over may choose to return home independently or arrange their own collection.
In the event of a medical emergency, I acknowledge that the Border Music Camp Staff and Committee may be required to call triple zero (000) for an ambulance and that associated costs of any required transport to emergency services will be at the cost of the student, or parent/guardian of students under the age of 18.

Cancellation and withdrawal
If Border Music Camp Inc. cancels the event, we make a full refund of fees.
If a Long Day, Short Day, or Morning Only student withdraws from the event for any reason other than for genuine sickness or injury, we will refund a relative proportion of fees minus an administration fee of $50, depending on the circumstances of the withdrawal. Due to the limited availability of places for Live-In students, cancellations will be entitled to receive a 50% refund.
From Camp commencement, any withdrawal for genuine reasons will be subject to a withdrawal fee calculated on a daily attendance pro-rata basis, but in any event, will not be less than 50% of the Camp fee.

Participants at or over the age of 18
Please bring photo identification to registration (e.g. driver’s licence or passport) to help provide a better child-safe environment. Camp participants at or over the age of 18 are expected to read our Child Safe Policy. Students aged 18 and still attending school are treated as school-aged children.
