Homeschool Talent Quest – THAT Award
(Those Homeschoolers Are Talented Award)
Conditions of Entry:
WHAT IT IS
1. The Talent Quest is an all-in, all-skills judged competition.
2. This is for homeschooled kids who are currently in Year 1 to Year 12 (minimum age: has already turned 5 as of January 2026 and maximum age 18 in 2026.)
3. There are two categories: On Stage Performance and Off Stage Arts Exhibition
4. Stage: This can be any mode that is family-friendly and maximum of 5 minutes. Singing, dancing, instrument, puppetry, comedy, poetry reading etc. is all acceptable. It can be solo or in a group but the entire group must be home-schooled. No adults are allowed to be involved in the actual performance, but are allowed to help their child prepare for the audition.
a. Each entry must be under 5 minutes, these will be timed. Any entry over 5 minutes will unfortunately be disqualified.
b. Please be wise in music choices and choice of words. It is expected the songs chosen are family-friendly, no lewd or crude lyrics or swearing. This includes songs chosen for dances, appropriate dance moves, dance costumes and spoken content that must be G-rated. If these guidelines are not followed, this will lead to a forfeit of your entry.
5. Canvas Art Exhibition: Modes of art include those done on a canvas e.g. painting or drawing, including mixed mediums (oils, charcoal, textas, collage, paper art etc.) Photography, for this year, is not included in the talent quest. All entries need to be created by the entrant’s own hand with no external help from others.
6. Digital Art is not included, as we do not have the capacity to test if it is AI, Photoshopped or other-influenced so we are only accepting art that has been made by hand.
a. Please be wise in your imagery. Art should invoke feeling, but this is also a family-friendly event and the images, paintings or drawings will be viewed by all ages, so they need to be G-rated.
b. Size of artwork: The artwork needs to be on a canvas and brought in on an easel to be displayed. Please keep in mind, bigger is not always better.
JUDGES
7. The judges & adjudicators choices are final, and they should not be approached outside of auditions or the night in regards to the talent quest.
ALL APPLICANTS – AUDITIONS
8. ALL APPLICATIONS must be received and paid for by April 17th, midnight. Applications will be closed by 12.01am April 18th.
As this is a NON FOR PROFIT event, there will be a small non-refundable fee payable of $14 to be able to audition. This audition fee covers the cost of hall hire, administration, printing etc. Please note: Payment of this fee DOES NOT guarantee a place in the finals. However, ALL children auditioning will receive a FREE ticket to the Finals Event to support the final entrants, as a part of the audition process. Please keep in mind, auditioning is a life skill in itself.
9. Multiple Entries: Pick your best talent and choose that one to enter. You cannot enter multiple talents.
10. Audition Day: Every participant MUST audition on the audition day, April 24th in order to be eligible as a finalist.
11. Art Application: A photo or video of your art must be received on or before April 24th but you do not need to be in person for the audition day.
12. Regional Homeschoolers (i.e. more than 2 hours out of Perth Metro.) Although we prefer auditions to be in person, if Regional Homeschoolers are too far to travel, they are allowed to take a video of their entry (for stage entries) or a photo (for art entries.) These must be sent in by midnight of April 23rd so the adjudicators can view them on Audition Day.
13. Audition Day is Friday April 24th and times will be sent out a few days prior. We cannot guarantee a time on that day until we know how many entrants. Priority will be given to the youngest auditions first, or those who live more than two hours outside of Perth metro. These auditions are CLOSED, meaning no other entrants will be permitted to watch, just the adjudicators.
14. All auditions, including art, will receive a Participation Certificate and the auditioning child will receive an entry ticket to the Finals Night (for those who did not place in auditions.)
15. Please do not contact the Officials (Event Co-Ordinator, Judges or Adjudicators) to find out the results of the auditions. Once a decision has been reached, ALL contestants will be emailed with the results and an announcement will be placed on the Facebook Group to alert you to check your emails.
It is the SOLE RESPONSIBILITY of the Parent/Guardian of the Contestant to ensure the relevant contact details have been added to your contact list, ensure you check Spam, and stay up to date on all emails & Facebook Group posts relevant to THAT awards.
FACEBOOK GROUP
16. A Facebook Group will be created so all updates will be posted in there. A link will be sent to you in a welcome email, after application.
ALL FINALISTS – FINAL DETAILS
17. If you are accepted, you must be present on the finals night in order to be considered as a finalist for the main prizes.
18. The Finals Night is May 16th and we encourage everyone, whether you made it to the finals or not, to come and support those who did.
19. Your time-slot on the finals night will be announced in the week prior.
FINALS NIGHT
20. As this will be a show – MC included! – and we need to pay for the venue, lighting, sound, stage, etc. plus admin fees, insurance and a whole host of other costs, there will be a ticket fee for the finals night. This will range from $15-25 per adult depending on the finals venue.
These T&C's will be emailed to you as part of your "ticket" and part of the welcome email. We need to make it fair on every contestant, so these rules will be upheld.
EXTRA NOTES FOR TRANSPARENCY:
I, Amy, as the main organiser of this event am also a homeschooling mama. So I will not alway be able to respond to your emails in a timely manner. I WILL get to them though. Please be patient and show grace as I do have 3 children and a business to run. If it's urgent, please call me.
All Officials, including Judges, Audition Adjudicators & Event Organisers will completely abstain from having any official input into the Auditions or Finals for their own children, if their children are participating in THAT Awards. This is to keep the event fair, upfront & honest for all contestants involved.
