Cost of Judging
 Cost is $50 for SCA judge + $75 per ABA judge,
 Judging registration fee is used to offset cost of T-Shirt and Judging Course.
What You Receive
 Riverway Meats T-Shirt
 Attendance in 1 hour Judges Course on day of competition;
 Judges course reference materials;
 First preference for judging position in 2027 competition; and
 The satisfaction of contributing to the success of the Townsville BBQ Battle.
Time Commitment – Day of Event
 Attendance at 1hrs judges course to be held at 11:00am;
 Attendance at all rounds of competition turns ins at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm.

INFORMATION FOR JUDGES
Judges Course
 The judges course will provide you with all the information you require to be able to impartially and objectively judge team proteins.
What to Expect
 There are 6 judges per table.
 You will be given a scorecard, pen, placemat, fork, crackers and water.
 Each table has a Table Captain assigned by the Head Judge.
 You will be judging multiple portions of different barbecue categories over a 4 hour period; and
 You play a critical role in the competition process and have a direct impact on the competition results.
What We Expect
Teams have spent a lot of time, money and energy to present you the best barbecue they can. It is important that you:
 Remain impartial at all times;
 Judge with integrity;
 Print neatly and clearly when scoring;
 Respect the process by acting professionally and following instructions;
 Refrain from talking or influencing other judges during the process; and
 Not leave the table without being dismissed by the ABA Head Judge.

JUDGING TERMS & CONDITIONS
As Townsville BBQ Battle is a sanctioned ABA competition, the competition will adhere to the ABA Rules, Terms & Conditions, available at www.ausbbq.com.au/abarules.
The Judging process, rules, terms and conditions will adhere to the ABA judging rules.
Confidentiality
 Any course materials provided to Judges are provided for the education, training and benefit of that Judge and cannot be shared, discussed or provided to any other party; and
 You must not disclose any of the machinations of the judging process undertaken in the official judging area.
Impartiality
 Judges must not fraternize with the cooking teams until the competition is totally completed;
 Judges must not be team members of a competing team at that event;
 Judges must not be spouses or partners of a competing team at that event
 If a judge must walk through the cooking area, they should not stop;
 A judge may visit teams the day prior to judging day, but are encouraged to limit the time spent with any one team and be mindful of perpetuating biases; and
 During the judging process you must not attempt to influence another judge.
Fitness for Judging
 Water is the only beverage allowed at judging tables;
 No alcohol is to be consumed during the judging process. This includes during the breaks between competition rounds and prior to start of judging;
 Judges must warrant they do not suffer from any allergies that prevent them from tasting team hand-ins. Teams may use peanuts, gluten and other allergens in the preparation of their proteins.
Time Commitment
 Judges must be available for the entire duration of the competition judging process. This includes the judges course at 11:00 am and turn in rounds at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Identification
 During the judging stages of the event, Judges must wear the provided Judges T-Shirt.

Judging Cancellation
 Cancellations must be notified in writing 30 days prior to the event or the full fee will be forfeited.
Photos and Social Media
Judges are permitted to take photos during judging provided that:
 The photography does not delay the judging in any way;
 Only your own placemat may be photographed, not the food in the hand in boxes;
 There are no scorecards or fellow judges visible in your photos;
 None of the photos are shared, emailed, displayed or posted anywhere until after the winners announcements; and
 Phones are ONLY allowed for photography, judges are not permitted to be using their phone for any other purpose during judging. Any social media use is strictly prohibited.
Refunds
 Refunds will not be issued. Refunds will NOT be issued in the event of bad weather, late arrival, last minutes cancellations or change of mind. In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, transfer of dates and charges will not turn over to a future event.
Judging Area Access
Access to the Judging Area is restricted to:
 Judges;
 Head Judge; and
 Townsville BBQ Battle
Indemnification
 The Judge shall defend, indemnify, hold harmless and insure Townsville BBQ Battle and its affiliates from any and all damages expenses or liability, resulting from or arising out of any negligence or misconduct on Judges part, or from any breach or default of these Terms and Conditions which is caused or occasioned by the acts of the Judges. Judges shall insure that they take all actions necessary to comply with the terms and conditions set forth in these Terms and Conditions.
 The Judge shall defend, indemnify, hold harmless and insure Townsville BBQ Battle and its affiliates from any and all damages expenses or liability, resulting from or arising out of allergic reactions or medical events due to eating proteins provided by teams during the judging process.
