YCC Terms and Conditions (updated 8/7/26)
Please read the following information carefully before submitting your entry. By entering the competition, entrants agree to follow the entry requirements and conditions listed below.
Eligibility
The ASME Queensland Young Composers Competition is open to students currently attending a Queensland school.
Entries are accepted in the following age groups:
• Primary: $20 per entry (composition up to 1.5 min)
• Junior Secondary: $25 per entry (composition up to 1.5 min)
• Senior Secondary: $25 per entry (composition up to 5 min)
Categories
Entrants may submit work in one or more of the following categories:
Vocal/Instrumental
Original compositions written for voice and/or instruments. A score must be submitted for this category.
Electronic
Original compositions created using electronic sounds, digital audio workstations, loops, samples, synthesis, or music technology.
Songwriting
Original songs that include lyrics, melody and accompaniment. Group compositions of up to five members are permitted in this category only.
Entry Process
There are two steps to complete your entry:
Step 1: Scan the QR code to complete the entry registration form and make payment.
Step 2: Once your payment has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email with links to upload your work.
Entries are not complete until all required materials have been uploaded.
Submission Requirements
All entries must include:
• an audio recording of the composition, submitted as an MP3
• a score in PDF format for Vocal/Instrumental entries
• a composer’s statement of up to 250 words as a PDF. This statement should explain how you composed your entry and may include details about your creative process, inspiration, and key compositional choices.
o Note: For electronic entries, you may also include screenshots from the software used to create your composition, such as GarageBand, FL Studio, Ableton or similar programs.
Entrants are responsible for ensuring that all files are submitted correctly by the closing date.
Original Work
Submitted compositions must be the entrant’s own original work.
A composition that has previously won an award in any competition is not eligible for entry.
Where appropriate, entrants should acknowledge any borrowed, adapted, or referenced material in their composer’s statement.
Group Entries
Group compositions are permitted only in the Song Writing category.
A group may include a maximum of five members.
All members of the group must meet the eligibility requirements.
Adjudicators
Entries will be reviewed by a panel of experienced music educators, composers, and/or industry professionals.
The adjudicators will consider the quality of the composition, the handling of musical ideas, stylistic understanding, creativity, and how effectively the work communicates the composer’s intent.
The adjudicators’ decisions are final.
Prizes
Fabulous prizes will be awarded in selected categories and age groups. Details of prizes will be shared via ASME website and Facebook pages.
ASME Queensland reserves the right not to award a prize in a category or age group if entries do not meet the required standard. ASME Queensland also reserves the right to divide or adjust prizes at the discretion of the adjudicators.
Young Composers’ Competition Awards Ceremony
All participants are invited to present their work at the ASME QLD Young composers’ competition award ceremony at Cannon Hill Anglican College in Brisbane on Sunday 18 October 2026. Adjudicators will lead composition workshops for all in attendance. Finalists will be invited to present their work. This event provides an opportunity for young composers celebrate composition with other young musicians, teachers, families and supporters.

Venue: Cannon Hill Anglican College
This Awards Ceremony provides an opportunity for young composers to share their original work, celebrate their achievement, and connect with other students, teachers, families, and supporters.
Further details will be provided to finalists after entries have been adjudicated.
Closing Date
Entries close at 5pm on Friday 11 September 2026.
Late entries will not be accepted.
General Conditions
By entering the competition, entrants agree to follow the entry requirements and conditions listed above.
ASME Queensland may contact entrants, parents/carers, or teachers regarding entry details, finalist notifications, and event information.
ASME Queensland may use entrant names, school names, composition titles, photos, recordings, or excerpts from submitted works for competition-related promotion, unless otherwise advised in writing.
ASME Queensland reserves the right to update competition details if required.
