1. Requirements:
- Participants must be 12 years of age or older.
- Legal Requirement – NSW P650 Form
All persons participating in a Firearms Safety Course must complete the NSW Police Force Firearms Registry P650 Declaration – Person shooting on an Approved Range or undertaking a Firearms Safety Training Course.
This form is a LEGAL DECLARATION and is audited directly by NSW Police.
You must read and understand all sections of the P650 and declare all information TRUTHFULLY and ACCURATELY.
False declarations or statements may result in CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION.
- Participants must present original photo ID (no photocopies will be accepted) from an Australian government agency or public authority, listing: Full name, Date of birth, Residential address (e.g., a driver’s licence or passport) that matches the type specified in their P650 declaration.
2. Minors (aged 12-17):
- All minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
- The minor must complete and sign sections A, B, and D of the NSW Police P650 declaration.
- The parent or legal guardian must sign section C of the NSW Police P650 declaration and bring:
- An acceptable form of photo ID (e.g., passport).
- The minor's birth certificate OR passport.
- The minor's current Medicare card.
3. Overseas Participants:
- Overseas residents/tourists must provide a current passport as identification, in line with the NSW Firearms Regulation 2017. No other form of identification, with or without a photo, will be accepted.
4. Range Session Rules:
- The Range Officer’s decision is final.
- No photographs are to be taken without Range Officer approval
5. Non-Compliance:
- Failure to meet the above legal requirements before the Try Shooting session start time will result in denial of participation.
6. Refunds, Transfers & Wet Weather
- Refunds and transfers of date will only be issued if 48 hours notice is given in writing.
- In the event of wet weather and the range is closed, you will be notified and your booking will be refunded. Sometimes this can be a late notice.
7. Alcohol/Medication, Dress, and Behavioural Code
- Alcohol/Medication Policy: Alcohol is strictly prohibited. Participants are also prohibited from consuming drugs or medication that may impair judgment before shooting. Shooting activities will not be permitted for individuals under the influence of alcohol, prohibited drugs, or judgment-impairing medication. Alcohol, drugs, and shooting do not mix.
- Footwear Requirement: Secure footwear must be worn at all times. Bare feet, thongs, or sandals are not permitted. We also recommend avoiding low-cut tops or singlets for comfort and safety. Hearing and eye protection will be provided.
- All Try Shooting participants must maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and respectful conduct at all times on the shooting range.
8. Communication
- Basic English language proficiency is required to comprehend instructions from the Range Officer on the shooting range.
9. Risk
Participation in SSAA Sydney Branch Try Shooting involves inherent risks associated with firearms and shooting activities. Participants acknowledge and accept these risks, including but not limited to potential injury or damage. SSAA Sydney Branch and its affiliates are not liable for any personal injury, loss, or damage to personal property incurred during or as a result of participation in SSAA Sydney Branch Try Shooting. Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless SSAA Sydney, its officers, directors, volunteers, and agents from any claims, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from participation in the Try Shooting program.
Participants are responsible for following all safety instructions, rules, and regulations provided by SSAA Sydney and its Range Officers. By participating in SSAA Sydney Try Shooting, participants affirm that they understand and accept the associated risks and release SSAA Sydney from any liability.
