Terms and Conditions for participating in the 2026 Western Australian Junior Chess Championship


Tournament Format:
• The tournament format, including the number of rounds, time controls, and pairings, will be determined by the organizing committee. Refer to the schedule and flyer.
• Participants will be grouped into appropriate division based on their age.
• The organizing committee reserves the right to make changes to the tournament format if necessary.

Prizes:
• Perpetual Trophies for the age group winners and individual trophies for all age groups.
• A separate Title of “Girls Champion” will be awarded to the best performing female player in each category, dependent
• on the total number of female players in that said category.
• To be eligible for any WA State Champion or individual prize, players must achieve a score of 50% or greater (e.g.4.5/9)
• In the event of a Tie for a State Championship title, there will be a playoff between the contestants.
• Participants must hold permanent residency in the state to be eligible to win the state title of any divisions. Players who do not meet the residency requirement will not be eligible for the state title. The organizing committee reserves the right to request proof of permanent residency during the tournament or at any stage of the competition.
• All Prizes will be presented after the Blitz event on Thursday, 9th July at 4:30pm.

Dress Code:
• In the true spirit of chess, we would prefer players to come appropriately dressed in Smart Casual. (No shorts / slippers)

Code of Conduct:
• Participants/ parents/ guardians are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner throughout the tournament.
• Unsportsmanlike behavior, including but not limited to cheating, use of unfair practices, or disrespect towards opponents or officials, may result in penalties or disqualification.
• Participants and their accompanying parents or guardians are responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations of the tournament venue.
• During games, possession of communication devices and other electronic devices capable of suggesting chess moves is strictly forbidden. While a player's games are in progress, all such devices that he/she has brought to the venue must be completely switched off and stored in a separate bag within the playing area. Spectators and players whose games in the current round have finished are not bound by this rule, but we ask that phones be kept on silent mode so as not to disturb the players.

Liability:
• The organizing committee, tournament officials, and the venue shall not be held liable for any loss, injury, or damage to participants or their belongings during the event.
• Participants are responsible for their personal safety and the security of their belongings. Please note, this is not a drop and go event, parents or guardians are solely responsible for the well-being and supervision of their children during the Junior State Championship. The organizing committee will not be liable for any mishaps, accidents, or incidents that may occur during the event. It is crucial for parents or guardians to ensure the safety and proper supervision of their children throughout the tournament.

Photography and Media:
• The organizing committee may take photographs or videos during the Junior State Championship for promotional or documentation purposes.
• By participating in the tournament, participants grant the organizing committee the right to use their images in promotional materials or media coverage related to the event.

Disputes and Decisions:
• Any disputes or disagreements arising during the Junior State Championship shall be resolved at the discretion of the organizing committee.
• The decisions of the organizing committee regarding any aspect of the tournament, including rule interpretations, pairing disputes, or disciplinary actions, shall be final and binding.

Changes and Cancellation:
• The organizing committee reserves the right to make changes to the terms and conditions, tournament schedule, or any other aspect of the Junior State Championship if deemed necessary.
• In the event of unforeseen circumstances or insufficient registrations, the organizing committee reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the tournament. In such cases, registered participants will be notified in advance, and any applicable registration fees will be refunded.
• By participating in the Junior State Championship, participants and their accompanying parents or guardians agree to abide by these terms and conditions. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions may result in disqualification from the tournament.
