Terms and Conditions  −  Beat the Heat Mine Cart Rally 2026

TEAM

1. Two people make up a team. One driver and one rider.
1. The rider is to be dressed as a cowboy – a wide brim hat, jeans, and a long sleeve shirt.
2. The driver is to be dressed as a miner – hi-vis shirt and hard hat
3. Teams can nominate on the day of the event, however there will be a maximum of 10 team entries. Once this allocation is exhausted nominations will be closed.
2. Team members are to remain the same members for all heats.
3. Participants must be 18 years or over to participate.
4. Officers and immediate family of Cloncurry Shire Council are eligible to participate.

MINE CART SPECIFICATIONS

1. Participants are responsible for constructing their mine cart to the specifications listed below, unless they are using a standard mine cart supplied by council (teams who use the council mine cart will not be eligible for ‘most enthusiastic’).
2. The cart must have fully enclosed sides. Wall height from base inside must be a minimum of 70cm.
3. Construction of the cart may be built of any solid material and be structurally sound to ensure it
does not fall apart during the race.
4. No sharp objects or protruding pieces to be included in or on the outside of the cart.
5. The cart must include four wheels with the wheel diameter not to exceed 25cm.
6. Each cart should have a theme and have the name of the team clearly written on each side of the
cart.

RACE RULES

1. Participants will need to present their cart for inspection at 6.15pm beside main stage.
2. The race will start with both driver and rider at the start line in front of the main stage.
3. The course will be walked through with competitors prior to the race commencing. The course may
include but it not limited to pushing the mine cart, eating hot curry, heavy lifting, and cracking a whip.
4. Teams will compete two at a time and complete the same obstacles.
5. Each team will be timed and the two fastest team will race off in the final.
6. Officials will monitor the race to ensure each section of the course is completed. If the section is not
completed the team will be stopped and asked to complete before moving to the next section.
7. Officials and judges reserve the right to disqualify teams for inappropriate behaviour or foul tactics.
8. In the event of any dispute not covered by the above rules the decision of officials if final.

PRIZES

1. First place team will receive a $300 buy local voucher, a first-place trophy and their team's name engraved on the perpetual trophy located in Council’s Admin Office
2. Second place team will receive a $200 buy local voucher and a runner up trophy
3. Most Enthusiastic will receive a $100 buy local voucher
4. Prizes cannot be transferred, substituted, amended, exchanged, or redeemable for cash.

WAIVER

1. I understand that by nominating a Mine Cart Rally team I release and discharge Cloncurry Shire Council, event officials and volunteers from any and all liability for personal injury or property damage or any other loss whatsoever associated with participation in the Mine Cart Rally. Further, I indemnify event officials from any and all claims or actions that may be bought against them in connection with my participation in this event.
2. I agree to abide by the Official Race Rules and Regulations and any reasonable directions given to me by event officials. I further understand that event officials may disqualify myself, my team or mine cart for any reason should they see fit.
3. I understand that competing in the Mine Cart Rally requires running, pushing and generally participating in physical activity. In my judgement I am physically fit to participate in the event. I consent to receive medical treatment from appropriately qualified personnel in the event I suffer an injury during the event.
4. I understand that during the Mine Cart Rally I may be photographed or filmed. I agree to allow my photograph or video to be used for a legitimate purpose by Cloncurry Shire Council. This may include promotional material, news stories and social media.
5. I agree to use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that my team and I compete in the event in the
6. spirt of the Mine Cart Rally.
