AIMS
During Year 11 a Presentation Ball is held for Year 11 students, organised by the College. The major aims of the Presentation Ball are:
To bring Year 11 students together in a happy, relaxed atmosphere.
To learn the basics of formal Ballroom dancing.
To make students aware of social graces, formal dress and deportment.
Past students reflect that the Presentation Ball is a major highlight of their years at Salesian College. The College endeavours that the Presentation Ball is a memorable occasion for the Debutantes and their partners, their families and their friends.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The Presentation Ball is a Year 11 function and for this reason, only students in Year 11 will be accepted into the Presentation Set. All students and their parents wishing to participate will be required to pay an initial participation. Acceptance of participation indicates that the family and the student agree to the rules and polices set for the Presentation Ball. Further to this, acceptance of enrolment into the Presentation Set will be subject to up to date payment of school fees and compliance of all College rules. A maximum of 70 dance sets can be accommodated. A waiting list will commence if required.
If a student’s enrolment status changes (e.g. exit), they will not be allowed to remain in the Presentation set, unless dance training has commenced, and then, only at the discretion of the College Principal. Permission will only be granted where a written agreement, outlining expectations of attendance and behaviour, is signed by both student and parent.
REHEARSALS
The dance set will rehearse weekly for a total of 6 weeks leading up to the date of the Ball. Group 1 from 4.00pm – 5.00pm and Group 2 from 5.00 pm – 6.00 pm. Any student that is unable to attend all rehearsals cannot be in the dance set. Work commitments will not be accepted as a valid reason for not attending rehearsal sessions. Arrangements must be made with employers to be excused on this day for the duration of the rehearsal. Students are expected to follow all College rules and regulations at all times.
RULES FOR PARTICIPATION
In order to achieve the above stated aims it is vital that there be a set of rules which govern the practices and the actual night of the Presentation Ball. Complete co-operation of the following rules is essential:
Attendance is mandatory at ALL Presentation Ball rehearsals for both Debutantes and their Partners. Unexplained absences will jeopardise enrolment in this event.
It is the responsibility of students to organise their own partners.
All students must wear the full school PE uniform to rehearsals, including the shoes they will wear on the evening of the Ball (it is best for boys to wear their school shoes to rehearsals).
All College rules apply for the duration of each rehearsal class. This includes uniform, chewing gum, use of mobile phones/iPods, etc.
The girls’ ball gowns are required to be white/cream in colour and of a formal, full-length style, in keeping with the spirit of a Catholic College. Gowns with a low neckline, exposed midriff (including see through material), strapless, backless or low back (lower than the bra line) are considered inappropriate for the event and are not to be worn. All gowns must be approved well in advance and students must send a photo of their gown to the Bosco Directors/nominated staff member.
All gowns must include straps (these are to be worn for the duration of the evening and not to be removed).
White, Cream or Silver shoes with an ankle strap and heels at 6 cms is recommended. Shoes must be worn by Week 2 of rehearsal. A ‘sneaker’ style shoe can be worn (this must be completely white)
Hire of the boys’ suits and shoes will be arranged. Black socks must be worn.
The consumption of alcohol by all Debutantes, their Partners and guests on the night of the Ball is strictly forbidden.
Limousines are permitted to be hired to transport students to the Ball only with parental consent.
Debutantes and Partners are to arrive dressed ready for the Ball and no street clothes or bags are to be brought into the venue.
The College does not condone ‘after parties’ and strongly advises parents not to risk hosting such events. Acceptance into the Presentation Ball Set is made on the understanding that parents fully support this policy and will take responsibility to ensure that no such activities are arranged.
Complete co-operation by the students with the above rules is essential. If a student does not fully co-operate with the Ball organisers he/she will risk being withdrawn from the set after consultation with the Deputy Principal and Directors of the Bosco Campus. The College Principal reserves the right to withdraw any student from the Presentation Ball Set.
FEES & TICKETS
All participants in the Presentation Ball will be charged a Participation Fee. This Fee covers dance lessons, access to a digital download of the evening, student dinner ticket and associated administration charges.
