The Karate WA Kick Start Tournament is more than just a competition – it is a practical introduction to tournament karate designed to build confidence, knowledge and experience.
Your $65 athlete registration fee includes:
Pre-competition instruction explaining how a karate tournament works and what to expect on the day.
Tatami etiquette training – learning how to enter and leave the competition area, where to stand, bowing procedures and how to respond to officials.
Kata and Kumite participation – athletes are encouraged to “Have a Go” at both disciplines.
Round-robin competition format, providing athletes with multiple opportunities to participate rather than being eliminated after one match.
Guidance from experienced coaches, referees and Karate WA State Squad athletes throughout the event.
Practical introduction to competition rules and procedures in a supportive learning environment.
Participation recognition for every athlete – Kick Start is about experience and development, not medals or podium places.
$65 per athlete – Have a Go at Kata, Kumite or BOTH!
No pressure. No medals. Just an opportunity to learn, participate, build confidence and experience your first karate tournament.
CLUB CONDITIONS:
1-10 Competitors - 1 official / volunteer provided by the club
11 - 25 Competitors - 2 officials / volunteers provided by the club
25 or more Competitors - 3 officials volunteers provided by the club
COMPULSORY SAFETY EQUIPMENT (KUMITE) - some equipment will be provided by Karate WA for use at the Kick Start Tournament such as helmets and belts.
1. Grion Guards (Males) and Mouthguards
2. WKF/AKF approved Red or Blue Gloves (all ages) and WKF/AKF approved Red or Blue Shin / Instep (8 years & above shin / instep protectors)
3. WKF/AKF approved Chest Protectors (Females 14 Years & above)
4. AKF approved Head Guard / AKF Helmet or WKF Face Mask (8 - 13 Years)
5. Body Protectors (all ages). Provided by Event Organisers if required.

Photography & Media Disclaimer
Please be advised that photography and/or video recording may take place during the Karate WA Kick Start Tournament.
Images and footage captured at the event may be used by Karate Western Australia for legitimate promotional, educational and reporting purposes, including Karate WA’s website, social media channels, newsletters, publications and future event promotion.
By attending the event, participants and spectators acknowledge that they may appear incidentally in photographs or video footage taken in public areas of the venue.
Karate WA recognises that some participants, particularly children and young people, may have restrictions relating to photography or the publication of their image. Parents/guardians who do not consent to their child being photographed or filmed are asked to advise Karate WA prior to the event and notify event officials upon arrival, so reasonable steps can be taken to accommodate the request.
Spectators are also reminded to be respectful when taking photographs or video and, where possible, to limit photography to their own athlete/s.
Karate WA reserves the right to restrict photography or filming where it considers this necessary for the safety, privacy or wellbeing of participants.
Closing Date : All registrations must be completed via trybooking by Sunday 11th October 5pm. No Refunds after this cut off.
All volunteers (unless they are exempt) - Club Coaches / Table Officials / Marshalls / Tea - Coffee personnel must submit the WWC card details. All volunteers must have a valid WWC card to participate in this event. If a volunteer is exempt they must be on the list also.
REFEREES - Unlees the referee has a WWC exemption each referee must provide WA Karate Federation with a copy (photo / photocopy) of their current WWC card prior to the commencement or the competition season.
Referees must send information direct to the WA Karate Federation Sports Pathway Coordinator.
