Community Health Talk – Hearing Loss and Dementia

About
Join Dr Dona Jayakody, Head of Brain and Hearing at the Ear Science Institute Australia and Career Advancement Fellow at RPH Research Foundation, as she delves into cutting-edge research exploring the critical link between hearing loss and dementia.
Dr Jayakody will discuss how hearing aids could play a pivotal role in delaying or even preventing cognitive decline in older adults based on the recent “Hearcog” clinical trial.
Hearing loss, which affects 1.5 billion people globally, is a leading cause of disability, with 90% of cases linked to aging. With dementia projected to triple by 2050, the findings from this trial have the potential to shape clinical practices and health policies worldwide.
This talk will provide attendees with insights into why addressing hearing loss is not just a quality-of-life issue but a global public health priority.
