Seminar Sessions & Timings
Session 1 9:30am | Kobudo | Stuart Walsh
Bojutsu: Muchimi and Kuzushi
Advance your Rokushaku Bo beyond basic strikes and blocks. This session explores the mechanics of Muchimi (heaviness/stickiness) and Kuzushi (unbalancing), focusing on using the Bo as an extension of the body rather than a rigid lever.
Participants will develop ‘heavy hands’, learn how to adhere to and control an opponent’s weapon, identify structural weaknesses and dead angles, and apply these principles through kihon such as ukewaza and tsuki to control engagement without relying on brute force.
No kobudo experience necessary.
Session 2 11:00am | Karate | Nenad Djurdjevic
Tuide: The Grappling Techniques of Karate
Explore Tuide, the traditional grappling methods embedded within karate. This session examines how locks, controls, and off-balancing principles integrate with striking and close-range engagement.
Participants will work through practical partner drills to understand gripping, joint manipulation, kuzushi, and positional control, developing a clearer understanding of karate as a complete system that includes both striking and grappling.
Session 3 1:00pm | Karate | Reece Cummings
Naihanchi Applications and the Use of Tachikata
Examine the principles of Naihanchi through its distinctive stances and cross-stepping method. No prior knowledge of the kata is required.
This session explores tachikata (stance usage), lateral movement, structural strength, and practical applications drawn from the kata, demonstrating how these principles can be applied generically across styles without needing formal knowledge of Naihanchi itself.
