Story Dogs at St Kilda Library (Tuesday Afternoons)
About
Story Dogs is a wonderful volunteer run literacy program that improves primary school aged children’s reading and communication skills by having them read to a trained companion dog and its handler.Animals are ideal reading companions because they allow children to proceed at their own pace and are less intimidating than peers or adults. They listen attentively and do not judge, laugh or criticise.
Port Phillip Library Service is partnering with Story Dogs Australia to foster a supportive environment for children to grow and develop into confident, lifelong readers. Children participating can bring their own books or access items from our wide-ranging collection.
These sessions are free; however, bookings are essential. Parents must be present for the session and fill in the parental consent form which we will email to you prior to commencement. Please note: this program is best suited to children in grades 2 to 6 (7 - 12 years old).
