ABOUT OUR RETREATS

Facilitated by Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher Tim Oddie and Mindfulness Educator Anna Loughrey - retreat suitable for all levels of experience.

At Body Mind Nature Retreats (evolved from ‘Geelong City Yoga’), we actively promote ‘conscious travel’.  Simply put this means we prioritise travel as a meditation. Using yoga, mindfulness techniques and the innate power of nature, participants are meaningfully integrated into the world around them.

Over the past 10 years it has been our privilege to create truly immersive experiences in locations positioned either well away from mainstream tourist developments, or deeply hidden within otherwise touristy destinations. People from all walks of life attend our retreats, some attend multiple retreats. Feedback we have received over our 12 years of running retreats tells us what people most value about their retreat experience - is the life affirming reminder of what deep connection feels like, to the self, to others and to their environment. Participants tell us that the positive imprints from attending our retreats reverberate through their lives long after they return home.

ABOUT US

We (Tim and Anna) both share a love of people, culture and nature and have a long history of leading retreats in regional Victoria, far north Queensland, North Bali and Northen India, including the foothills of the Himalayas. 

About Tim Tim is a Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher with 30+ years teaching experience. With highly developed skills he conveys the essence of yoga with depth, clarity and humor. Whether you are new to yoga, have physical restrictions or have been practicing for many years, Tim will support and challenge you, as you gain greater insight into the nature of your being. 

About AnnaAnna brings 30+ years life coaching experience and works part-time as a counselor in community mental health. Combining gentleness and directness, Anna offers a selection of mindfulness techniques to help quieten your mind, support greater connection to your intuition and instill greater confidence to follow your heart. 

ABOUT SANGURYA - YOUR RETREAT VENUE

Sangsurya  has long been held as a treasure in the Buddhist community locally and internationally. It is located on the outskirts of Byron Bay, just 5 minutes drive from downtown Byron Bay, stunning beaches and national parks. The Centre is set among subtropical gardens, palm trees, walking trails and a myriad of bird and animal life, on a secluded, forested 10 acre property. With easterly views this truly beautful retreat centre looks out to Arakwal Aboriginal country and across to the Pacific Ocean. Sangsurya’s rooms are designed and furnished in a soft and tasteful Thai style aesthetic. Sangsurya rates 5 / 5 stars on Trip Advisor.

In between sessions, participants are encouraged to walk around the property and discover the myriad of garden wonders, to swim in the pool (not heated), to walk to the local beach (Tallow Beach - 20 minutes) or engage in any other activity that encourages a sense of 'presence'. The touristed areas of Byron Bay including shops and markets, are also close by but we suggest this stimulus is kept to a minimum.

THE ACCOMMODATION 

Accommodation at Sangsurya Retreat Centre is in Thai style hand-built timber-floored houses and cabins. Single, double or twinshare occupancy is available, with an ensuite or with shared bathroom facilities. Bedrooms are uniquely positioned amidst sub-tropical gardens to give a wonderful sense of privacy and connection to nature. Each room has been individually designed and furnished to have its own charming ambience. All rooms are heated, air-conditioned and have ceiling fans.

THE FOOD

Meals are served from a partially enclosed and partially open-air dining room overlooking lush rain forest and the Pacific Ocean. From breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea to dinner time you will be nourished with delicious cuisine. The menu is gluten free and vegetarian. Herbal teas and fresh fruit are available all day. Plunger coffee is also available.

THE SWIMMING

There is a salt water pool for lap swimmers and sun lovers. For those who enjoy ocean swimming or strolling along quiet white sand beaches, Tallow Beach is a pleasant 20 minute walk away through national park.

 

   

SPA TREATMENTS

There are massage facilities at the centre, however bookings need to be made direct with the masseur and payment made directly to them. If this is of interest to you please let us know as soon as you are sure you are coming, and we let you know when the best time windows are to book. 

THE TRAVEL

Travel arrangements need to be planned for a 1.30pm arrival (for a 2pm program start) on Friday 31/5/ 24 and a 12.30pm program end on Wednesday 5/6/24.  Participants will need to make their own way to the retreat centre. Ballina is the closest airport to Byron Bay.  Byron Easy Bus has been recommended to us and can take you directly to Sangsurya and costs $35 from Ballina Airport (20 minute ride). Ubers are also readily available. The venue address is 95 Old Bangalow Road, Byron Bay. 

THE WEATHER

The average daily maximum temperature around May / June is 22 degrees with a minimum of 14 degrees.

From 12/5/24 we are offering 25% off prices listed below. A $500 deposit secures your place ($1000 for double)!

On balance of payment you will receive a registration form asking about dietary needs, emergency contacts, flight details, insurance details etc. A reminder email will be sent to you 1-2 weeks prior specifying balance owing and our account details.Prices as listed above include above:
