Nick Valentine - Sharper Lawyering: Reflect. Learn. Improve
Nick Valentine, Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist, is back in Hobart in March to run this new interactive workshop in which you get to explore how to apply the principles of reflective practice - to critically examine your professional experiences and learn from them to improve your future actions - in your legal work, with a particular focus on self-appraisal and self-care. Nick's workshops are always popular, interesting and insightful. If you've been along to his sessions before, you'll know not to miss this one. Workshop - Sharper Lawyering: Reflect. Learn. Improve
This workshop will delve into techniques that help you as a lawyer to critically evaluate your experiences and performance to enhance your professional growth and resilience, and improve your decision-making. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to foster a reflective mindset, enhance your professional practice, and promote your overall wellbeing by being equipped with actionable tools.
Key components will include:
- Reflective Practice and Why It Can Help Your Practise: What it is, why it matters, and how it can benefit you in building emotional resilience in your legal practise.
- Stress Management Strategies: Exploring ways to maintain wellbeing amidst the demanding nature of legal work. This includes stress management and work-life balance. The workshop will offer you tools and techniques that address the mind-body connection. These tools will help you appreciate how harnessing internal mechanisms can support emotional regulation and stress management.
- Ways to Evaluate Professional Goals: Techniques for self-reflection, setting and evaluating professional goals, and seeking constructive feedback.
- Practical Application: Engaging in reflective practices, group discussions, and case studies to reinforce learning.

​Nick started his career working in Forensic Psychology (in custody and the community), and have since worked in Child Protection, Family Violence and Emergency Services sectors. He has continued to provide counselling, consultancy, and workshops to these sectors, in addition to the legal sector (including private firms and Australian Law Societies), international Employment Assistance Programs (EAP), and the Insurance and Workers Compensation sectors.

Venue Access: Please note that as the Society's building at 28 Murray Street, Hobart was built in 1876 there is no lift or disability access to the downstairs training area. The Society's building at 56 Charles Street, Launceston was built in 1860 and there is no lift or disability access to the upstairs rooms.
