"It Takes A Village" Grandparents and Carers - IN PERSON

King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* 2 hour class to pregnant people and their supportive village.
The class is run IN-PERSON with an experienced clinical midwife. It is a small group setting located in our Parent Education Department at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Becoming a grandparent or supporting your family member or friend postpartum is a joyful and important role—especially in the early weeks after a baby is born. It Takes a Village is a practical and supportive class designed specifically for grandparents and carers to help them confidently support new parents in the postpartum period.
This session covers:

Up-to-date postpartum care and infant care information

How to provide emotional and practical support to new parents

Key child safety essentials

An outline of the challenges new parents face and how to best support them in this role
Whether you’re preparing to welcome your first grandchild or simply brushing up on the latest in baby care and safety, this class empowers you to be a calm, helpful, and informed part of the parenting journey.
This class is offered in small groups in-person, or an online alternative which can allow grandparents to join online from wherever they may be located - this is a great option for families interstate or even overseas. The class must be attended with the birthing woman.
ELIGIBILITY
• Birthing at King Edward Memorial Hospital or Osborne Park Hospital.
RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK
• We recommend booking this class before 37 weeks. Please note this class runs in both an in-person and an alternative online option. Spaces are limited in the in-person workshops.
LOCATION
This class is held IN-PERSON in our Parent Education Department, between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, for pregnant people and up to three support people. If you require more tickets, please call or email our department on (08) 6458 1368 or parented.reception@health.wa.gov.au to enquire about an additional availability or online options.
We will provide you with a confirmation email and instructions on how to attend our department a few days prior to the session.
TICKET INSTRUCTIONS
• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need to book their own ticket.
- Please note, this session has a limited capacity, you must only bring the selected number of supports with you to the session to meet our safety requirements.
• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below)

This two-hour IN-PERSON session is available to soon-to-be grandparents or carers within your postpartum support system. It covers the latest information on infant care best practice, challenges for new parents and the role of grandparents.This workshop must also be attended by the pregnant woman booked in to King Edward Memorial Hospital.
