HOMAGE TO ROGER FRAMPTON at the MIL with GARY DALEY QUINTET

The documentary film Roger Frampton Comes Alive! is a biographical portrait of the musician, Roger Frampton (1948–2000), who played a significant role in the development of Australian jazz and improvised music. Through his playing, composing, collaborating and long-term teaching at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he helped nurture a generation of jazz artists and cultivate a style that remains today. Made by his daughter Emily Rytmeister as part of a PhD at Western Sydney University, the film illuminates Frampton’s life and work through his music, interviews with his family, contemporaries and students, and archival footage of his performances. It will interest all Jazz enthusiasts and be of relevance to all current students of Jazz.
The Friends of the Mechanics Institute Lawson Inc hosts this one-off screening, with an introduction by esteemed Australian jazz historian Bruce Johnson. Following the screening there will be a live performance of Frampton’s music by some of his former students and colleagues, and doyens of the Jazz scene, including:- Gary Daley (piano and accordion)/ Steve Elphick (double bass)/ Gordon Rytmeister (drums)/ Paul Cutlan (Reeds)/ Daryl Pratt (vibraphone).[ The Gary Daley Quintet]
