AICD Marilyn Jones Awards 2026
COMPETITION DATE: Sunday 3rd May 2026
ENTRIES CLOSE: April 24 2026     ENTRY FEE: $100
1ST Place: $7000 plus Dancetrain Magazine subscription.
2ND Place (Garth Welch Memorial Prize): $3000 plus Dancetrain Magazine subscription.
3RD Place: $1000 plus Dancetrain Magazine subscription.
Registration for class – 1:45pm for 12:15pm start. (1hr 15min class)
Classical Solo Section commences at 3:45pm (Approximate conclusion, 4:45pm) More details and time table of the day will be emailed to you closer to the date of the competition.                                                                                       6         
Awards are offered to senior students aged aged 15-18 years  (age as of 3rd May 2025) 

All competitors are assessed on their classical ballet class work as well as their variation performance. Class may include pointe work and boys allegro competitors are advised to warme up well before class commenses.  The solo section willo  follow the class. Contestants are required to perform a variation from classical repoutoir, performed in traditional performance costume. Previous 1st place winners of this event may not enter this competition the following year.

BALLET STUDENTS AGES 11 & 12yrs (age as of 3rd May 2026)  ENTRY: $65

Registration: 9am (Solo only, no class) Classical Ballet Solo: 9:30am (no pointe shoes)
Approx. finish 10:45am
An original, choreographyed solo or age appropriate solo is to be performed in costume, Approx. 2-2.5min in duration. Please be sure to properly warm up before solo performance.

1st Place -(total value $900)  $400 Plus $500 Bloch gift voucher and Dancetrain Magazine subscription
2nd Place -(total value $500)  $200 Plus $300 Bloch gift voucher and Dancetrain Magazine subscription

BALLET STUDENTS AGES 13 & 14yrs (age as of 3rd May 2026) ENTRY: $80

Registration: 10:30am. Class: 11am - 12noon. Solo Section: 12:30pm - 2pm. A teachers own choreography or a simple variation is to be performed in costume (pointe shoes for girls). Approx. 2.5min in duration. Please be sure to properly warm up before solo performance.

• Music for solo section must be sent as an MP3 or MP4 to nsw.aicd@ballet.org.au no later than a week before this event.

Liability Waiver & Risk Acknowledgment: The entrants of this event, or if under the age of 18 years, the parents/guardians/teacher of such entrants, understand and agree that participating in any dance class and/or performance there is a possibility of physical injury. The entrant agrees to assume all risk related to any such injury or accident, which might occur to me or to any entrant for whom I am parent/guardian/teacher during class and/or performances. I exempt, release and fully indemnify AICD, its owners, agents, volunteers, assistants, employees, guest teachers, representatives or other students from any and all liability claims, demands, or causes of action of any kind or character whatsoever, in respect of any damage, loss, injury or death to me, any entrant for whom I am parent/guardian, or property belonging to me or such student which may arise out of or in connection with participation in any classes or activities conducted by AICD.  I confirm that I have provided AICD with all relevant information of any medication, existing medical conditions and/or limitations of that entrant. I agree to photos being taken during this event for promotional publications.
